A native of Los Angeles, Lisa Felsenthal, the designer of the Lisamichelle Collection, always had a great love of the fashion and art that surrounded her. While studying fine arts and art history at Reed College in Portland, Oregon, she created a series of sculptures based on connections between fashion and architecture. After an acclaimed public exhibition, she decided to explore her love of fashion to a greater extent. She studied fashion design at Otis College of Art and Design, while simultaneously interning for designers Michelle Mason and Jeremy Scott. As a design student at Otis, she received numerous awards, including a Rosalind Gilbert award for eveningwear, a Fashion Group International award, and her designs were featured in the windows of Neiman Marcus during her junior and senior years.
Before launching her first spring collection for 2008, Lisa designed for Rozae Nichols’s A Common Thread line and Monique Lhuillier. She helped launch the Common Thread line and created innovative embellishments and fabric treatments, which they are known for today. At Monique Lhuillier, she worked as an associate designer for Ready to Wear and bridal collections.
After a wide variety of experiences, she set out to find the finest European fabrics and trims to create for her first collection. Inspired by the unique beauty of these fabrics, she artfully designed a collection of women’s clothing with meticulous detail to construction and finishing, both inside and out. The Spring 2012 collection combines hand painted chiffon, along with metallic taffeta and silks. The pieces are highlighted by 1920’s vintage inspired trims and details. The collection is composed of feminine, flattering silhouettes that embody a spirit of optimism and playfulness, and reflect the unique individuality of the wearer. The collection has grown and now features unique and versatile beaded accessories to highlight the clothing.
Throughout the past couple years, the Lisamichelle collection has been presented in a number of fashion shows. The collection was recently featured in Runway Magazine’s Projection Fashion Show at Drai’s in Hollywood. A number of actresses, musicians, and entertainers, including Amber Rose, Taryn Manning, Paris Hilton, Carolyn Hennesy, Ashley jones, and Lauren Meyhew, have worn Lisamichelle pieces. The collection has also been featured in printed publications such as Women’s Wear Daily, Apparel News, Glamoholic and Genlux Magazine, as well as in online publications such as Variety.com, Agenda Magazine, MYFDB.com, BussBuss, ILWYW, as well as others. The clothing has also been worn regularly on NBC’s First Look LA and Open House LA.
